On the Solemnity of the Annunciation on March 25th , 2001 the parish of Carnes Hill was started with the blessing of Cardinal Edward Clancy. Rev Danny Meagher was appointed our frist Parish Priest, and began to gather our community in faith.

Parishioners still remember Fr Danny knocking on their door introducing himself as their new Parish Priest.

Ash Wednesday, 2002, a demountable is placed next to our school on rented land.  This is to become our Parish Mass Centre.  Fr Danny with the help of our community, renovated our new church ready for its opening and blessing.

Mr Tony Lo Casio is appointed Principal of Holy Spirit Primary School. Holy Spirit Primary School opens with 42 pupils.

In 2004, Fr Danny is requested by Cardinal Pell to pursue post-graduate studies in Rome.   With an outdoor feast day Mass at Pentecost 2004, 1200 parishioners came to celebrate and Farewell Fr Danny.

We welcome Rev. Patrick Hurley as our Parish Priest in 2004, and it becomes a busy year for Fr Pat in the Planning and Development of both the Parish and School buildings.

In 2005, we add to our Parish Community,  a new Catholic High School, Clancy Catholic College.  We are privileged to have Cardinal Clancy visit the site to turn the first sod.

Between 2005 and 2006, constructions are underway for our new Church. Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Carnes Hill was officially Dedicated by Cardinal Pell on the 15th July 2007.

In 2013,  Fr Patrick Hurley leaves us at Holy Spirit to dedicate more time to Good Shepherd at Hoxton Park.  Fr Pat has been Parish Priest of both Parishes since 2007.

Fr Joseph joins us in 2013, introducing our regular parish BBQ’s and Outdoor Palm Sunday Mass, our community has been growing. In 2017, Fr Josephs family donated the marble statue of Our Lady that is located in the entrance of the church. At our 10 year celebrations, Archbishop Anthony Fisher blessed our church and statue with our community in attendance.

In December 2020 our Archbishop Anthony Fisher launched a new Mission Plan, Go Make Disciples. In connection with this mission, Fr Joseph had a dream to make and place a cross on the highest point of our grounds. To be a beacon of hope for our parish and for those who pass by. In March 2021 generous families from Holy Spirit made this possible by donating and erecting this cross for our Community.

Hoping that we are inspired, as we see the cross,
to sacrifice our life for others as our loving God did for us.

Hoping that those who have lost their way,
as they see the cross, the Lord will guide them back.

Hoping that those who are searching for fulfillment in their life,
when they see the cross, will be guided and inspired
to find what they are searching for
